Empowering Change from the Ground Up: SRCI Wins The Power of Local Challenge from ASHOKA Foundation!

We’re proud to share that the Sustainability for Resource Collectors Initiative (SRCI) has been named a Winner of The Power of Local Challenge by Ashoka.

Our project, Waste to Worth Indonesia (W2WI), was selected from nearly 900 applications across 17 countries, earning recognition and a $15,000 grant for its innovative approach to empowering resource collectors across Indonesia.

This achievement celebrates not only our team’s efforts but also the strength, resilience, and dedication of the resource collector communities we work with. They have played a critical yet often overlooked role in keeping our environment clean and advancing the circular economy.

Winning The Power of Local Challenge strengthens our belief that meaningful change begins at the community level, where innovation meets empathy and local voices lead the way toward systemic transformation.

“This recognition is not just for us, it’s for every resource collector who works tirelessly to protect our planet, often without acknowledgement.” – Kirman Alamsyah, Program Coordinator SRCI Indonesia

Following this milestone, SRCI has begun implementing a digital dashboard to enhance transparency and impact measurement within our programs. The tool will track both social support initiatives and waste collection activities led by our network of resource collectors, enabling us to measure progress more effectively and scale our impact across Indonesia.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Ashoka and all partners who continue to support grassroots changemakers committed to building a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Together, we’ll continue to turn waste into worth and empower the people at the heart of Indonesia’s recycling ecosystem.
